About the club
A weekly meeting and a standing promise
A Lions club is a regular meeting and a standing promise to the parish.
The Lions Club of Savanna-la-Mar serves the parish of Westmoreland as part of Lions District 60B — the sub-district of Multiple District 60, the Lions organisation of the Caribbean, whose clubs span Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and the Eastern Caribbean. Between meetings we run service projects across the parish.
Lions Clubs International is the largest membership-based service organisation in the world: 1.4 million members in more than 50,000 clubs across 200 countries and geographic areas, founded by Melvin Jones in 1917. Lionism came to Jamaica in 1965 with the charter of the first club in Kingston; today there are twenty-seven Lions clubs in Jamaica. Our motto is two words long: We Serve.
Lions worldwide focus on eight global causes — vision, diabetes, childhood cancer, hunger, the environment, disaster relief, humanitarian work and youth — with a special initiative on mental health and well-being. Our club carries that work at parish scale, and sponsors Leo clubs so that leadership and service are learned early rather than discovered late.

Our Mission
To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.
From the Lions Code of Ethics
Of the things we think, say or do
- 1 To show my faith in the worthiness of my vocation by industrious application
- 2 To remember that in building up my business it is not necessary to tear down another's
- 3 To hold friendship as an end and not a means
- 4 To be careful with my criticism and liberal with my praise; to build up and not destroy
The Lions Code of Ethics was adopted in 1917 and its spirit has not changed since. Among its commitments:
Mottoes
Two sentences, eighty years apart
We Serve
Lions's principal motto. Adopted in 1950, and the standard by which a club decides whether it has had a good year.
Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nation's Safety
The secondary motto, from the earliest days of Lions. Service and enterprise were never meant to be opposites.
